This Autumn and Winter Yorkshire MESMAC in partnership with Rightsteps and others will be presenting a range of FREE workshops for the LGB&T community and anyone affected by HIV.

The workshops will run from 6.30pm – 9pm; they are friendly and informal and include free home-made food and drinks.  (Dates below)  In these workshops we will be examining the ‘thinking’ challenges we face in the modern world.  We will discuss and demonstrate the tools we have at our disposal to help us think more clearly and constructively, so that we might live healthier, happier and more successful lives.

Feedback from a previous session

‘Some real gems in tonight's workshop! Really opened my eyes to better ways to develop my thinking and coping mechanisms’

The first three of these will be as follows:

Wednesday 7th September 2016, 6.30pm – 9pm
Think Workshop
What we as individuals think about ourselves, other people and the world around us is important, very important.  It affects how we feel and how we act; how happy and how successful we are.  Unhelpful thinking styles can lead to stress, anxiety and depression.  Helpful thinking styles can help reduce negative experience, promote happiness and achieve success (however we choose to self-define it).

In this workshop we will be discussing how to recognise unhelpful thinking; learning how to challenge it; and get hints and tips on developing helpful and realistic thinking habits.

Tuesday 20th September 2016, 6.30pm – 9pm
Dealing with Anxiety
In this workshop we will be discussing anxiety and social anxiety in particular.  We will be applying thinking tools for confidence in social situations and discussing helpful and unhelpful thinking habits with regards to homophobia, transphobia, HIV Stigma and the world around us.

Wednesday 12th October 2016, 6.30pm-9pm
National Hate Crime Awareness Week Event

In support of National Hate Crime Awareness Week we will be discussing Hate Crime and fear of Hate Crime with ‘Victim Support’ whilst hearing about the services they provide.  In particular we will be helping to ensure that their services are LGB&T and HIV inclusive.

Additional workshops will then be held on:

  • Tue 25 October 2016
  • Wed 9 November 2016
  • Tue 29 November 2016
  • Wed 7 December 2016

With additional dates to be confirmed for 2017

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Self-confidence, self-esteem      & body image
  • Worry time and problem solving
  • Mindfulness Awareness of all      human needs and their respective importance
  • Self-awareness: What have I got      and what do I need?
  • Common unhelpful thinking      styles and patterns
  • Helpful thinking styles and the      tools we have to develop and enhance them
  • And the usefulness of      conventional wisdom, the current consensus and the role of social media in      an ever changing world
