Black History Month begins on 1 October 2023 with the theme ‘Saluting our Sisters’.

BHM 2023 provides an opportunity for students to get involved and one way is via the national poetry competition on the BHM website - an opportunity to learn whilst inspiring and empowering future generations.  Check out the website and poetry submissions can be made on Poetry Competition Entry - Black History Month 2023.  Lots more information on Black History Month 2023 can be found on www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk

Interesting fact….. Did you know?  One of our buildings at our Wakefield College Campus was named after the great Mary Seacole following a competition with our students to rename one of our buildings.  Mary Seacole was nominated by Callum as an inspiring role model who defied social expectations and prejudices to travel the world risking her life for others.  We are extremely proud 'The Seacole Building' can honour such an incredible woman in history.
