See attachment for full workshop details.

Media Trust are coming into college to run a free 2 day film workshop on 25th and 26th February and are looking for approx. 15 students to take part. They are funded by the Cabinet office to deliver their workshops to encourage young people to create positive change through social action. At the end of the workshop, students will have produced a 90 sec film based around social action using smartphones. They have a production team who will polish the videos which they will upload to their youtube channel. We are working in partnership with Sky News Stand up and be counted platform where young people will film a selfie on a social issue they are passionate about and we will help them upload this to the website.

It is open to any young person between the ages of 13-17 years old and graduates of the NCS (National Citizenship Program). At the end of the workshop, we will give them more details about NCS and how they can sign up. NCS is a fantastic program that the college has been supporting. Students go on a residential and take part in a social action project in the community. Www.thencsnetwork.org.uk

In most cases, this will take some time out of your college lessons, so it is only on offer to students who are on top of their work and/or have permission from their tutors to attend.

To give you some background information, here is the Digital Storytelling Brief and a little bit about Media Trust and at the end there are some examples of the work they have done:

Media Trust has been awarded a grant through the Office for Civil Society's Youth Social Action Journey Fund to encourage young people to create positive change through social action. Digital Storytelling is an exciting and engaging two-day training course that empowers young people to highlight issues that are important to them, tell powerful stories and create positive change. We equip young people with the skills they need to create, shoot and edit short films using only their smartphone.

We work in partnership with organisations across England and we tailor the training to match the abilities of your young people.  An experienced youth media trainer will deliver the interactive two-day session to a group of up to ten young people. They will learn how to define and tell a story, experience the technical aspects of filmmaking and editing as well as learn how to reach an audience.  They will create their own films and share their stories. After the training, we will link you with a local media professional who will volunteer their time to support your group to continue to make content and provide career guidance. In addition, we have partnered with the new Sky News Stand Up Be Counted media platform for young people. This will give them a fantastic opportunity to air their views to a wider audience.
