Free 2 day Journalism workshop for individuals aged 17-25 THIS WEEKEND SAT AND SUN

Media Trust would like to invite young people from diverse backgrounds to our exciting journalism workshop with Trinity Mirror newspaper group, giving them the chance to to become a journalist reporting in the community. They will be trained by professional journalists who will equip them with a range of new skills from constructing arguments, story building and photojournalism to enable them to develop engaging and balanced news reports.  After the workshop we will connect them with Trinity Mirror journalist to mentor them to write regular news articles for local publications and provide an insight into the industry.

 

This will give them invaluable hands on experience of reporting and enhance their portfolio of work. 

 

The training will be interactive, exciting and engaging and will include:

The art of debating

Storytelling – how to define and tell a story

Writing compelling and appealing news stories, features and opinion pieces

Vlogging

Photojournalism

Connecting them with a journalist mentor to provide them with 1-2-1 advice

The two day workshop will be held on Saturday 7th February and Sunday 8th February (10am to 3.30pm) in Huddersfield (they must be available to attend the full two days).  Food and drink will be provided throughout the workshop and we will also cover travel expenses for those coming from Leeds or Bradford.

The age range is 17 to 24 years old. They don’t need a journalism qualification – just a passion for telling stories, communicating issues important to them and a smartphone for filming.
